There are tons of museums and art galleries that are worth an afternoon visit—so many, in fact, that it would be easy to feel overwhelmed by choice! That’s part of why we’re rounding up our six favorite Dallas museums and galleries to get you inspired to go out there and learn.
If you have a friend or neighbor in our community of apartments in Lake Highlands, Dallas who is your ideal museum partner, go ahead and share this post with them! It’s the best way to start planning your next cultural excursion. For now, sit back and let us tell you about all your fantastic options.
If art museums are your bag, the Dallas Museum of Art is an obvious must-visit. At the moment, the DMA has some fabulous exhibits on European women artists, urban modernity, and Asian textiles. The museum also hosts Late Nights on the third Friday of each month, which features performances, concerts, readings, and more that last until 11 pm.
If you’re more into the sciences, then the Perot Museum is perfect for you. While an excellent choice for parents with children, visitors of any age can enjoy the enormous dinosaur skeletons, stunning geodes, and impressive interactive exhibits. Soon they’ll be starting their Summer of Science events for 2019, so it’s a great time to start planning a visit!
Pro tip: stop by the Nasher Sculpture Center on the first Saturday of the month. The Nasher offers Free First Saturdays with special afternoon events, activities, and free admission. Check out the thought-provoking sculptures outside in the garden, then head inside the small museum for even more awesome art.
The African American Museum of Dallas is devoted to the preservation and display of African American artistic, cultural, and historical materials, and has one of the largest African American Folk Art collections in the US, making it another must-visit museum in Dallas. Their current exhibits include a collection of art by black women artists, which will be closed on May 31, 2019, so we highly recommend visiting ASAP to make sure you catch it! If you’ve already missed it, you can still check out their exhibit on Reflections Through Digital Soul, featuring 3D installations, sculptures and other works by Andrew Scott.
If you’re at all interested in John F. Kennedy, the Sixth Floor Museum deserves your visit. It’s a fascinating little museum devoted to JFK and specifically his assassination, which was carried out from the very floor that now houses this museum.
This art gallery is a popular spot, especially among young adults interested in vibrant art installations and Instagram-worthy scenes. Whether or not you’re into documenting your visit on social media, this gallery is well worth a visit for its visually stunning rooms, with bright colors, bold patterns, and immersive features.
